This Week's Homework
Reading Questions and Logs
Homework Expecations
I value family time and outdoor activities in the evening so I will try to keep homework to a minimum. My belief is that homework should be a review of concepts we are learning in class and expect that students try their best each night! Homework is looked at for effort, not necessarily correctness. If your child ever forgets homework, it can be accessed from the website!
Math Homework
Math homework will come home daily. Occasionally, students will be asked to bring a problem home and teach a concept to someone at home. We will go over the daily problems each day and review misconceptions. Please encourage your child to ask questions as they arise!
Literacy Homework
1. Students will be expected to read for 30 minutes every night. In class students are learning how to pick "good-fit" books and I encourage this strategy to be used at home to prevent students getting frustrated with books that are too difficult. I will also be sending home books at their independent reading level as needed.
2. Throughout the first few weeks of school, we will be discussing strategies to think about our reading. An overview of these will be available on our classroom website as we learn them and students will be expected to respond about their reading using one of these strategies.
3. Occasionally, students will be asked to read a passage or article and respond to it. Having students practice strategies with different types of reading (i.e. books, informational, articles, etc.) will help them grow and develop as a reader!
